You thought living with a dog would be easy but it isn't.
You took them to puppy classes, and everything seemed to be going well. But as they’ve grown, their behaviour has changed—from cute and funny to frustrating and even a little worrying. You love them and want to help, but with so much conflicting advice out there, it’s hard to know what’s best.
All you want is for life with your dog to feel easier.
No more walking at odd hours to avoid your dog’s triggers. No more avoiding visitors. No more stress and worry—wouldn’t that be nice? Right now, that might seem impossible, but with the right help and support, life with your dog can be so much easier.
That’s where I come in.

I'm Anthony - a qualified dog trainer & behaviourist.
I founded Buttons & Leash after the unexpected arrival of Tywin in 2019. He came with an extreme fear of people and traffic, along with a rare birth defect that caused him pain throughout his life. Unfortunately, I struggled to find professional help that truly made sense, so I began studying and learned how to help him myself.
Thankfully, we were able to work through his challenges, and he became my stooge dog until he passed in 2024. My experience with Tywin showed me just how difficult life with a challenging dog can be—and how crucial it is to work with someone who not only understands your struggles but can also guide you through them – if that’s what you’re looking for, you’re in the right place.
I Can Help You With
Aggression in dogs is reactive behaviour such as growling, snapping, or biting, often triggered by fear, territoriality, pain, or past negative experiences.
Anxiety in dogs is a state of distress triggered by unfamiliar environments, past trauma, or pain, often shown through pacing, whining, or destructive behaviour.
Resource guarding in dogs is defensive behaviour like growling or snapping to protect food, toys, or spaces, often driven by fear of loss, past scarcity, or pain.
Fears and phobias in dogs are extreme reactions to specific triggers like loud noises, strangers, or new environments, often causing trembling, barking, or avoidance.
Hyperactivity in dogs is excessive energy and restlessness, often caused by insufficient exercise, stimulation, or underlying pain.
Destruction in dogs involves chewing, digging, or tearing objects, often due to boredom, anxiety, pain, or a lack of proper outlets for their energy.
Excessive barking in dogs is persistent vocalisation in response to boredom, fear, excitement, territorial instincts, or pain, sometimes becoming a learned behaviour.
Car travel issues in dogs involve restlessness, whining, drooling, or vomiting, usually caused by anxiety, motion sickness, lack of exposure, or discomfort from pain.

Bruno Case Study
Before Bruno arrived in his forever home, he’d been in 8 homes in 4 months. He’d been abused in each one which left him terrified of people & other dogs, which had resulted in several bite incidents. Over a year, we helped Bruno overcome his past trauma, learn to trust (most) people and helped him relax around other dogs.
“Without Anthony, we would not have learnt what we have about Bruno and what he needs. We would not have known what to do to help him, and we would be in a completely different situation.”
Program Principles
Comprehensive
Your dog's behaviour, environment & history will be assessed to identify the root cause(s) of their behaviour.
Bespoke
All training & advice is specific to you & your dog - there's no cookie cutter approach here.
Ethical
I only use force-free, science based methods. That means NO fear or pain is used to train your dog.
Effective
The training methods we use are proven to work in the real world whilst being easy to learn.
Program Structure

This will include your dog’s medical history & videos/pictures of how they navigate their day to day life.
Behaviour Evidence
Diary and/or video evidence of the behaviours you’re concerned about will be requested. This helps me understand the triggers, functions & patterns.
2 Hour In-person Assessment
A deep dive into your dog’s behaviour, environment, and history to create a tailored plan. This takes place in your home.
Movement, Gait & Posture Analysis
Dog behavioural issues are often caused or made worse by underlying pain. This analysis will help us identify if there are any physical issues affecting your dog.

Bentley Case Study
Bentley had multiple issues that needed working on: excessive barking, stranger danger, dog aggression, lead pulling, fear of traffic and more. Working over year, we managed to transform Bentley into a wonderful and confident dog
“I would like to thank Anthony for helping me and my dog Bentley. Bentley is definitely a better dog. He’s not stressed, more relaxed and happier. I can now have other dogs in the house. I can walk where other dogs are. And many more things he can now do. Would I recommend Anthony? Definitely without a second thought. Thank you so very much”

Dog Behaviour FAQ's
What areas do you cover?
My dog training services are available in Caterham, Coulsdon, Crawley, Dorking, East Grinstead, Edenbridge, Godstone, Haywards Heath, Horley, Horsham, Lingfield, Leatherhead, Oxted, Reigate, Sevenoaks & Westerham
What training methods do you use?
I only use force-free, positive reinforcement training methods. I do not offer quick fixes, I focus on long-term behaviour change.
Can I pay in installments?
Yes, all our training programs can be paid via monthly payment plans.
What if I need more sessions?
When it comes to additional sessions, you can purchase individual sessions (£75) or subscribe to our ongoing monthly support which consists of 2 x 1 hour sessions for £140 per month.
Do you guarantee results?
It’s not possible to guarantee the results of any behaviour modification. Dog’s are sentient beings with their own likes, dislikes, past experiences and learning.
I have however, worked with hundreds of dogs and successfully changed their behaviour.
Can I do just one session?
I do not offer one off sessions as changing a dog’s behaviour takes time and a proper understanding of the causes behind the behaviour.
What if my dog has multiple issues?
It’s not uncommon for dogs to have multiple issues that require help. Whilst we try to resolve all of their behaviour within your initial purchase, additional sessions maybe required.
