Overseas rescue dog settling in support

Helping Your Rescue Dog Settle Into Their New Home

Based in Redhill, Surrey and covering surrounding areas.

Usually when I work with an overseas rescue, it’s after problems have already started to appear. Barking at every little noise, unpredictable behaviour around people, reacting strongly to other dogs or simply seeming fearful of the world. Owners are left wondering what went wrong & more importantly how to make things better.

In those early weeks, it’s not just the dogs that struggle. Owners often feel unsure whether to comfort or ignore certain behaviours, worried about making things worse, or confused by conflicting advice. Even simple routines can feel daunting without clear guidance.

That repeated experience made me realise that owners need clear support from the very beginning.

That’s why I created the Settling In Program — to give you one trusted source of guidance during those crucial first days. It helps prevent common issues from escalating, supports your dog at their pace & gives you the confidence to know you’re doing the right thing.

Settling In Client Review

“We chose Anthony for 1-1 training for our Romanian rescue puppy, Lola. We were first time dog owners and Anthony’s calm and no-nonsense approach was really great for helping us through the anxieties which come with that. Anthony had some great suggestions on how to reconfigure our house to help Lola settle into life with 2 slightly timid cats, and his advice on toilet training was a godsend!

Lola’s gone from a timid dog who wouldn’t go into the garden, let alone a walk, to a happy, confident dog.”

How it works

Settling In Programme

This programme is designed for overseas rescue dogs and their owners navigate the crucial settling in period.  It’s built on the below 3 principles.

Problem Prevention

We focus on reducing the likelihood of problems occurring by

Early Intervention

We address issues as they arise, instead of them becoming established behavioural issues.

Realistic Expectations

I'll help you understand what to expect from your rescue dog and how to respond.

Phase 01

Decompression & Safety

The first stage is all about helping your new rescue settle into their new home. We focuses helping them feel safe, building important routines and establishing a bond with them.

Phase 02

Foundation Skills & Early Exposures

Once your dog has settled in and is truly relaxed, we begin teaching them important skills needed to navigate day-to-day life and carefully start exposing them to daily situations.

Phase 03

Confidence & Resilience

The final stage is about helping your dog navigate more complex situations, building resilience and ironing our any quirky behaviours that can occur with overseas rescues.

Frequently Asked Questions

You can start the Settling In programme from the moment your rescue arrives up until 3 months after their arrival.  Feel free to book a free discovery call to find out more.

The main benefit of the Settling In Programme, is that we can prevent a lot of issues from occurring and becoming bigger problems that are harder to undo.

Another benefit is that you’ll be working with an experienced behaviourist who has worked with lots of rescues – meaning you can trust the advice I’ll give you.

Most behavioural issues are directly caused or made worse by underlying pain.  Spotting underlying pain is notoriously difficult in UK dogs and it’s even harder for ex-street dogs.  As part of this programme, we try to identify underlying pain in a proactive manner so it can be treated (if required) before it becomes a problem.

If you need them, additional sessions can be purchased at a slightly discounted rate.
