Dog to Dog Reactivity Support in surrey

Behaviour support for dogs who bark, lunge & snap at other dogs

Based in Redhill, Surrey and covering surrounding areas.

Life with a dog who is reactive to other dogs doesn’t just make things difficult, it can be worrying, stressful and at times, embarrassing.

Do you find yourself walking at odd hours just to avoid other dogs? Does your heart sink every time you spot an off-lead dog heading your way? Are you tired of well-meaning strangers shouting advice that only adds to your frustration?

I know exactly what that’s like, after rescuing a reactive Belgian Shepherd called Tywin, I soon started to dread walks and would hold my breath whenever we encountered a dog.

Chances are, you’ve come to this page because of a recent incident, maybe a walk went particularly badly, an incident left you shaken or a certain comment was the final straw.  All you want is to be able to enjoy your dog walks again, without having to be on edge all the time.

That is why I have created the ‘Beyond Behaviour Programme’, to give owners the guidance and support I wish I’d had when I was struggling with my own dog.

It’s a holistic & force-free programme, designed to help owners understand the root cause(s) of their dog’s reactivity towards other dogs and achieve lasting behaviour change with a tailored behaviour pathway.

Why this is happening?

Understanding Your Dog's Reactivity

HOW I HELP REACTIVE DOGS

Beyond Behaviour Programme

This is programme I wish existed when I was struggling with my dog’s reactivity – it’s structured yet never one-size-fits-all.

01

Comprehensive Assessment

Before we can resolve your dog’s reactivity, we need to figure out what’s causing it.  This involves carrying out a detailed assessment of every aspect of their life.  This phase includes:

2 Hour Behaviour Assessment

The first session takes place at your home and is all about identifying the root causes of your dog’s reactivity.  This involves a full exploration of your dog’s lifestyle, environment, routine, triggers, behaviour and health.

Underlying pain is one of the most common causes of reactivity in dogs, unfortunately it can be very difficult to identify.  That is why we carry out a detailed assessment of how your dog moves, holds themselves and navigates certain activities, to identify areas of potential pain, that could be contributing or directly causing your dog’s reactivity.

I will also review your dog medical history, to identify any factors that could be causing or contributing to their reactivity.

Reactivity can massively impact your dog’s ability to properly deal with stress, frustration, impulsivity and arousal.  As part of our assessment, we look at how your dog handles these and its effect on their general behaviour.

Personalised Behaviour Pathway

The next step is where we begin to address the root causes of your dog’s reactivity.  We do this by implementing changes that are specific to your dog.  This phase includes:

Behaviour Report

You’ll receive a personalised behaviour report that explains your dog’s reactivity, immediate steps you can take to make things easier and a long-term plan.

A detailed vet report will be created based on the evidence gathered during our assessment.  I’ll also liaise with the vet and support you through this phase to ensure your dog receives the appropriate treatment.

You’ll get access to guides explaining how pain affects behaviour, navigating vet visits and more.

Once you’ve implemented the recommendations from the behaviour report, we have a progress check-in session to see how your dog’s getting on.

03

Training & Ongoing Support

Once we’ve addressed the underlying reasons of your dog’s reactivity, we implement training to help navigate the situations they struggle with.  This phase includes:

Follow-up Training Sessions

1 Hour follow-up training sessions are included to implement training and help you with any challenges that occur.

After every session, you’ll receive access to relevant, step by step training guides with video demonstrations.

Direct support is available in-between session via text, email and/or WhatsApp for the entirety of the programme.

Access to an online learning, allowing you to manage every aspect of your beyond behaviour experience.

Anxious and Fearful Belgian Malinois

Case Study

Bentley, the anxious Belgian Malinois

When I started working with Bentley, he was struggling with multiple aspects of day to day life;

Over 4 months, we were able to reduce Bentley’s anxiety and give him specific skills to cope with being around traffic.  We used Tywin to help him adjust to being around other dogs and created a predictable routine for visitors.

Frequently Asked Questions

What's the difference between a dog trainer and behaviourist?

A dog trainer’s role is to teach a dog new skills (walking nicely on the lead, coming back when called etc.) – think of them like a teacher.

A dog behaviourists role is to uncover and understand the root causes of behaviour and help owners address these causes.  They will deal with complex behaviours such as aggression, fear, anxiety etc. – think of them like a psychologist.

It’s not uncommon for dogs to have multiple behavioural issues and yes, I can help with all of them.

When getting in touch, just let me know what the issues are and I’ll explain how I can help.

Should you need them, additional services can be purchased at a slightly discounted rate.

Unfortunately, no professional behaviourist can or should guarantee results.

Unlike a car, where we can just swap the affected part for a new one, dogs are living and sentient beings with their own emotions that require understanding and respect. What I can promise you is that I will give you and your dog the respect you deserve. I will also give you the most honest and appropriate advice to help you and make lasting behaviour change.

Nope.

Whilst in some situations it is possible to improve things in a short period of time, I focus on achieving long lasting behaviour changes and addressing the underlying issues behind the behaviours.

All training, guidance and advice is based on force-free and up-to-date dog training methods.  I DO NOT use methods that cause fear or pain.
